Artist's Statement

JOAN STANICH

For many years my artistic expression had been in interior design and gardening.  In the early ‘90’s, I began watercolor painting, moving next into acrylics and, more recently, oils.  I love using the luscious pigments in vibrant colors, color mixing and achieving varied effects with thick paint and pallet knife application in landscapes and architecture.  I enjoy the challenge of realism and paint with an impressionistic flair, often in high values contrasted by deep rich darks.

A sense of history and appreciation of nature are reflected in the subject matter I choose:  gardens, parks and quaint villages, with entryways and passages as repeated themes--garden gates, paths, doors and windows.  I work from strong compositions primarily on location or from various photographs of Kenosha, Racine and Door County, WI, and European travels.

I desire to use my God-given creative abilities to make a difference and positively impact others through joyful, uplifting artistic expressions.
